I did figure out how to cheat. (He he he) if I get one of their analog meters and replace their needle with an eccentric disk that would gradually uncover one of two photo transistors I could rotate that little motor at varying speeds in either direction. I could hide the meter but that would not be very elegant.
If you can get a analog meter which take input as voltage and indicates it on scale then you can modify the scale of the meter to reflect the synchronisation of speed
