Post subject: Analyzers used in Oil and Gas

Hi friends,

Can I ask for your help to know what are the various instrument and analyzers that are typically used in oil and gas industries. And also their calibrations and maintenance.
Thank you very much in advance.

Warm regards,
Rey

Wow, quite a question to answer,

We use all kinds of instrumentation to measure temperature, pressure, flow, volume, calorific value, dew points for the gas and oil and also for anciliary equipment involved in the process.
To be honest not much maintenance work is done on instumentation as such, since all instrumentation feeds back into a SCADA system that will produce alarms if systems go out of measuring range we will automatically know of faults.
There is also the issue of working on instrumentation on a running plant, this produces its own safety hazards and also opportunities to trip production!
Most instrumentation is calibrated annually during a period when production is shutdown for maintenance. This involves local calibration of the instrument and also calibration back into the readouts on the SCADA display.
Instruments used for the process are calibrated by contractors or in house staff. Instrumentation that monitors output (we call fiscal metering) is calibrated by a specialist contractor authorised by our customers to validate the readings and then seal off the instruments with tamperproof locks.

I hope the above gives you a bit of an insight into what goes on .

Kind regards

Donald

Hi,
Thanks intruite/nita, this should be where I should start. This is a great start for those who don't have background in oil and gas. I think I should ask for more once I finished reading and understanding this manual. Thanks for the help.

Warm regards,
Rey
