Hello shimin,

We use 4-20mA signal for data transmission, because it is the standard the standard signal being used. We use this current signalling because it is insensitive to electrical noise.

we use 4 -20ma because in case of any fault in line...we cannot detect 0 signal wen its already 0.
but if its 4 ma u can easily detect the signal wen its faulty bcoz signal at dat time will be showing 0 instead of 4 ma.
and as sirisha already wrote that is also a one reason.

This is very similar to why we using 3-15psig as standard signal in pneumatics.
